  • Brain Machine Interface - Miguel Pais-Vieira (ICS) Abstract
    Brain-machine interfaces allow direct interaction between the brain and artificial sensors and actuators. Traditionally, brain-machine interfaces have been restricted to a single user. More recently, brain-machine interfaces have been extended to multiple users allowing for direct transfer of information between brains without the use of any of the biological sensors or actuators. In this talk, I will start by describing the steps that led to the first experimental demonstration of brain-to-brain communication (Pais-Vieira et al., 2013) as well as follow up studies with networks of brains (Pais-Vieira et al., 2015, Ramakrishnam et al., 2015). Then, I will demonstrate how these studies are influencing current and future research.
